This brick multi-family house was built in 1925 and rises two stories to an asphalt roof. The 1916 Bromley Atlas shows John Burns as the owner of the empty lot where this house was built. The 1925 City Directory lists Gordon Fairbairn as a resident of 30 Turner. Charles Cushing, a chauffeur, is listed as a resident of 32 Turner. The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows C. and E.G. Cushing as the owners of this house. In 1930 this house was owned by Charles Cushing, a 64-year old chauffeur who was born in Japan. Charles lived in 32 Turner with his 49-year old Canadian wife Elizabeth and their four children: 19-year old Anna, a telegraph operator for Western Union; 18-year old Bernard; 17-year old Dorothy; and 12-year old Foster. 30 Turner was rented for $50 a month by Daniel Regan, a 68-year old from Ireland who worked as a steam engineer for a hospital. Daniel lived with his 66-year old Irish wife Mary and their three children: 44-year old John, a steam engineer in a factory; 33-year old Beatrice, a dressmaker; and 15-year old Joseph. The building was valued at $7,500. |
