This brick multi-family house was built in 1930 and rises two stories to an asphalt roof. The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows James Sweeney as the owner of the empty lot this house was built on. In 1930 part of this house was rented for $50 a month by James Finnes, a 43-year old truck driver. James lived in 83 Oakland with his 35-year old wife Theresa and their four children: 13-year old Theresa, 9-year old Anne, 3-year old Pauline, and 2-year old James Junior. 85 Oakland was rented for $50 a month by John Mills, a 58-year old from Scotland who worked as a plumber for a railroad. John lived with his 57-year old Canadian wife Mary and their two sons: 26-year old George, a bookkeeper for a biscuit company; and 22-year old Walter, a stenographer in a railroad office. |
