62-64 Oakland Street

This brick multi-family house was built in 1930 and rises two stories to an asphalt roof. A renovation was performed in 2003.

The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows Lewis and Anna Lenkner as the owners of the empty lot this house was built on.

In 1930 this house was owned by Thomas McGrath, a 31-year old from Ireland who worked as a salesman in a grocery. Thomas lived in 62 Oakland with his 32-year old Irish wife Ellen and their five children: 9-year old Mary, 7-year old Thomas, 5-year old Richard, 3-year old Eleanor, and 1-year old Lawrence. 64 Oakland was rented for $60 a month by Peter Cavanaugh, a 34-year old typewriter salesman. Peter lived with his 29-year old Canadian wife Anna; 8-year old daughter Elaine; infant son Peter; 21-year old Helene Toomey, a boarder from New Hampshire who worked as a clerk in a department store; and 24-year old Agnes Toomey, a boarder from New Hampshire who worked as a registered nurse in a hospital. The building was valued at $12,000.
