52-54 Oakland Street

This brick multi-family house was built in 1930 and rises two stories to an asphalt roof.

The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows Lewis and Anna Lenkner as the owners of the empty lot this house was built on.

In 1930 this house was owned by Marcus Ryan, a 71-year old retiree. Marcus lived in 52 Oakland with his 52-year old Irish wife Mary and their 14-year old son Thomas. 54 Oakland was rented for $50 a month by William Costello, a 36-year old machinist for an iron company. William lived with his 35-year old wife Jane; 2-year old son John; 43-year old brother-in-law William Cullen, a salesman in a meat market; and 38-year old sister-in-law Mary Cullen, a private nurse. The building was valued at $8,000.
