This multi-family house was built in 1924 and rises two stories to a slate roof. A renovation was performed in 2000. The 1924 City Directory lists Edith Anderson, a teacher at the Hobart Street School, as a resident of 84 Nonantum. The 1925 City Directory lists Edith Anderson, a teacher at the James Garfield School, as a resident of 84 Nonantum. Daniel Canty, an electrician; John Canty, a mail clerk; and Margaret Canty, a buyer, are listed as residents of 86 Nonantum. The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows A. and E. Anderson as the owners of this house. In 1930 this house was owned by Peter Flanagan, a 45-year old from Ireland who worked as a motorman for a railroad. Peter lived in 86 Nonantum with his 42-year old Irish wife Catherine and their six children: 17-year old Mary, 15-year old William, 12-year old John, 11-year old Joseph, 11-year old Elizabeth, and 9-year old Irene. 84 Nonantum was rented for $45 a month by Earle Gray, a 25-year old ice dealer from Canada. Earle lived with his 25-year old Canadian wife Mary; their 1-year old son Ronald; and his 23-year old Canadian cousin John Pearl, a plumber. The building was valued at $12,000. |
