The 1916 Bromley Atlas shows Louisa Bryant as the owner of this house.

The 1925 City Directory lists Robert Davis, a bricklayer; and Per Peterson, a machinist, as residents of 38 Newton. James Winch, a blacksmith, is listed as a resident of 40 Newton.

In 1930 this house was owned by Robert Davis, a 66-year old stonemason from England. Robert lived in 40 Newton with his 59-year old English wife Ada; 38-year old widowed daughter Gertrude Ekay; and 14-year old grandson Edward Ekay. Part of 38 Newton was rented for $30 a month by Robert Davis, a 32-year old stonemason. Robert lived with his 32-year old English wife Lillian and their two children: 6-year old Robert and 3-year old Ethel. Another part of 38 Newton was rented for $35 a month by Michael Davis, a 29-year old Irish-born laborer in a rubber factory. Michael lived with his 26-year old Irish wife Agnes and their 1-year old daughter Theresa. The building was valued at $6,500.
