The 1925 City Directory lists Edward Kenney, a cutter; John Kenney, a machinist; Margaret Kenney, a teacher at the Theodore Lyman School in East Boston; Thomas Kenney, a storeman in the Boston & Albany Railroad's engine house in Allston; and Thomas Kenney Jr, a machinist, as residents of 9 Newcastle. The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows T.J. Kenney as the owner of this house. In 1930 this house was owned by Thomas Kenney, a 62-year old from Ireland who worked as a storekeeper for the Boston & Albany Railroad. Thomas lived in 9 Newcastle with his 60-year old Irish wife Nora and their five children: 35-year old Thomas Junior, a machinist for the Boston & Albany Railroad; 31-year old John, a machinist for the Boston Elevated Railroad; 27-year old Mary, a clerk for the Boston Elevated Railroad; 25-year old Edward, an electrician for the Boston & Albany Railroad; and 23-year old Alice, an operator for the Boston & Albany Railroad. 7 Newcastle was rented for $40 a month by Robert Harvey, a 55-year old odd jobs laborer from Canada. Robert lived with his Canadian wife and two daughters. The building was valued at $10,000. |
