In 1930 part of this house was rented for $40 a month by Francis Laverty, a 37-year old clerk for a candy company. Francis lived with his 35-year old wife Agnes and their two sons: 15-year old Francis Junior and 12-year old Gilman. Another part of this house was rented for $40 a month by John Cawthoron, a 32-year old from England who worked as a mixer in a bakery. John lived with his 29-year old Scottish wife Matilda and their 1-year old son John. Another part of this house was rented for $40 a month by John Shonk, a 33-year old college instructor from Lithuania. John lived with his 31-year old Lithuanian wife Challotte and their two daughters: 4-year old Ruth and 3-year old Challotte.
