70 Claymoss Road is a two-family house that was designed by John Kelly and built by Walter MacEachern in 1925 for Robert Burns. This 2.5-story wood house rises 35 feet from a concrete foundation to a hipped asphalt shingle roof. The cost of construction was $11,000. In 1925 a two-car concrete block garage was built with a hipped asphalt shingle roof. The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows Mabel Cardarelli as the owner of the empty lot this house was built on. In 1930 this house was owned by Robert Burns, a 33-year old insurance agent. Robert lived with his 34-year old Canadian wife Hazel; 5-year old son Paul; and 28-year old sister Doris Corrish. Part of this house was rented by Frank Wheelan, a 30-year old civil engineer. Frank lived with his 30-year old wife Anna and their two daughters: 4-year old Anna and 1-year old Elizabeth. The building was valued at $13,000. By 1948 this house was owned by William Angelopoulis. In 1948 the house was re-roofed with asphalt shingles. In 1952 the second story of the rear piazza was enclosed with screens and storm windows. By 1979 this house was owned by William Kent. |
