169-171 Beacon Street

171 Beacon Street was built ca. 1866 by builder Paul D. Wallis, one of three contiguous houses (169-171-173 Beacon), probably built for speculative sale.

By 1870, 171 Beacon was the home of banker Joseph Benjamin Moors and his wife, Mary Buckminster (Jones) Moors.   Joseph B. Moors is shown as the owner on the 1874 Hopkins map and on the 1883, 1888, and 1908 Bromley maps.

Joseph Moors died in April of 1909.  Mary Moors continued to live at 171 Beacon, joined by her unmarried sons, Arthur Wendell Moors and John Farwell Moors.

Mary Moors continued to live at 171 Beacon until about 1913.

Arthur Moors married in June of 1914 to Virginia Fisher, and they made 171 Beacon their home.  John Moors continued to live with them until his marriage in May of 1918 to Ethel Lyman Paine.

Arthur and Virginia Fisher continued to live at 171 Beacon.  They also maintained a summer home in Cohasset.  The 1938 Bromley Atlas shows Arthur Moors as the owner of this house. Virginia Moors died in November of 1944, and Arthur Moors continued to live at 171 Beacon until his death in January of 1949.

After Arthur Moors's death, 171 Beacon was acquired by Mary Sullivan.  In October of 1949, she converted the house from a single-family dwelling into twelve apartments.

By 1969, 171 Beacon was owned by John V. Kunigenas.  By 1975, and probably earlier, he also owned 169 Beacon.

In August of 1979, the Broderick Development Corporation purchased five properties from John Kunigenas: 136-138 Beacon, 169-171 Beacon, and 119 Marlborough Street.

In May of 1980, Jane S. White purchased 169-171 Beacon from the Broderick Development Corporation.  In December of 1983, she converted the two buildings into twenty-four condominiums (twelve units in each building).
