This multi-family house was built in 1900 and rises three stories to an asphalt roof.

The 1925 City Directory lists Augusta Acores, an artist; and Addison Hogan, a clerk in the stationmaster's office in South Station, as residents of 49 Bayard.

The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows E.F. Driscoll as the owner of this house.

In 1930 this house was owned by Joseph Covel, a 48-year old house painter from Maine. He lived in 49 Bayard with his 48-year old Irish wife Margret, and his 21-year old son Albert who worked as a salesman in a hardware store. Joseph had two borders: 35-year old Mary Coyne who worked as a stenographer in a printing office, and her 33-year old sister Catherine who worked as a telephone operator. William Fergehouson, a 28-year old restaurant worker rented 51 Bayard for $40 a month. William lived with his 33-year old Irish wife Margret, his 4-year old son William, and his 3 month old daughter Margaret. He also lived with his 27-year old sister-in-law Anna Malchay (born in Ireland) who worked as a salesgirl in a restaurant.
