This brick multi-family house was built in 1920 and rises two stories to an asphalt roof. A renovation was performed in 1985. The 1925 City Directory lists Alexander MacGilvray, a teacher at Brighton High School, as a resident of 33 Bayard. Catherine Craig, a teacher at the James Otis School in East Boston; Joseph Craig, a clerk; and Reta Craig, a bookkeeper, are listed as residents of 35 Bayard. The 1925 Bromley Atlas shows J. and C. Craig as the owners of this house. In 1930 this house was owned by Joseph Craig, a 65-year old Canadian-born clerk for an elevated railroad. Joseph lived in 35 Bayard with his 62-year old wife Catherine, and his four daughters: 34-year old Frances, who worked as a secretary for the library; 32-year old Catherine, a public school teacher; 28-year old Rita, a bookkeeper for a specialty store; and 23-year old Irene, a secretary in a law office. Joseph's 50-year old sister-in-law Annie McDonald, a "forelady" in a department store, also lived here. The building was valued at $9,000. 33 Bayard was rented for $30 a month by Alexander McGehraig, a 42-year old assistant manager at an auto repair shop. Alexander lived with his 38-year old wife Mary. | ||
